“Flynn had week 4 of his lessons this week – poor kid fell asleep in the car 15 mins before the class was due to start – so you can imagine what he was like by the time his lesson was due to start – he was not a happy 3 year old. After screaming and thrashing around (and dragging his mother into the pool ) the instructor (Nick) took him, and after 10 mins. had managed to calm him down and get the lesson underway. By the end of the 30 min session Flynn was all smiles. I have to say, I was seriously impressed. I’m his father and I don’t think I could have turned him around in that short time. “That article was such a chilling read, I had never known about that before, although it brought back the memory of my little sister falling over in shallow water and not getting up, but just staring at me blankly through the water not kicking or splashing or even moving, and all she needed to do was to stand up to be safe again. I pulled her up, not thinking twice about it then, being only 5-6 years old, she was 2-3 years then. And it has been quite scary to read about other people’s similar responses of memories they have, after posting it on FB and other people having on theirs. How many stories like that there are! “After our family purchased a house with an in ground swimming pool in the backyard, we decided it was time for our 1½ year old son, Carson, to enroll into swimming lessons. We were well aware of the statistics of backyard pool drownings – EVEN THOUGH YOU THINK IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU. On recommendations from a friend, we booked into AQUA PLAY (parent and child) lessons at AQUASTARS Swim School. In such a short period of time at AQUASTARS Swim School, Carson was blowing bubbles, kicking his legs and fully going under the water with ease. One day my Husband was working in the pool area and Carson was riding his dinky close by. Unfortunately the back wheel of the dinky went over the edge and INTO THE POOL – TAKING CARSON WITH IT. As it was winter, he had several layers of clothing on as well as solid work boots. OUR SON MANAGED TO RISE TO THE SURFACE AND START STRUGGLING TOWARDS THE SIDE, WHICH GAVE MY HUSBAND A FEW PRECIOUS SECONDS TO REACH IN AND GRAB HIM.
